Smoothie Basics
Thought you may want to know what the basic smoothie begins with especially if you are a smoothie newbie.
The following recipe is pretty much what all smoothies begin with and all you have to do is add to it from there. Please note that anything I put optional beside is totally up to you to add into the recipe.
Basic Smoothie or Smoothie Beginnings
Ingredients
* 1/2 cup yogurt (any flavor, but plain is a nice start)
* 1/2 cup milk or juice (use whole, 2%, low-fat, or skim)
* 1/2 cup chopped fruit (fresh or frozen)
* 1 teaspoon wheat germ (optional)
* 1/2 cup ice cubes/crushed ice (optional but will really cool a smoothie down)
Mix all together in a blender and serve immediately
You will not taste the wheat germ but it does add a certain health benefit. You can also use flax seed (oil or ground) which is generally what I use what with all the hoopla about it’s healthy benefits.
Adding ice will make your smoothie have a thicker body and will result in a colder smoothie. You do not have to have it but I certainly love it in there.
There are all sorts of ideas to make your smoothie more enjoyable such as adding more sweetness to it with honey, sugar (bad for you), powdered sugar, Splenda, or better yet, Stevia (the herb that’s sweeter than sugar).
Obviously, you can add traces of lemon juice, vanilla, or just about any extract. Use your imagination and see what unique smoothie you can come up with!
Just a smooth gal who loves a good smoothie!
